Join the Estero Island Historic Society for its final public meeting of this season on Monday, March 14th at 7PM. Guest speaker Ellie Bunting will present “50-Plus Years of Fort Myers Beach History.”
Presenter Ellie Bunting grew up primarily on Fort Myers Beach and has lived on the beach since graduating from the University of South Florida. She’s taught English at Florida SouthWestern State College since 1980 and has been on the Board of Directors of EIHS for the past 20 years.
Bunting will take a look back at Fort Myers Beach and the area’s history, starting with the early homesteaders and squatters in the late 1800s through the “boom” of the early 1900s, the crash of the Depression years, hurricanes and World War II, and finally forming a real community by the 1950s.
The free meeting is being held at the Fort Myers Beach Public Library Community Room on the 3rd floor. Donations are always welcome.
