What is Beach Talk Radio?

We launched Beach Talk Radio in late 2018. The show was created after meeting so many interesting and unique characters on Fort Myers Beach we thought it would make an interesting show. Episode #1 was a tape recorded episode with two of those crazy characters. Mean Gene Bowers as he was known, was the reason we went to table 23 at Pete's Time Out. He sat in the same chair, at the same time, pretty much every day, unless it rained or there was a parade. Gene know everyone and everyone loved him.

Gene is the voice you hear at the start of every show we do. We would make him do that intro live every Saturday. It was interesting at times to hear Gene crank out the opening after his 3rd or fourth Bud Lite. Gene died in 2019 but his legend will live on forever at the start of every one of our shows.

Back when we started the show we didn’t have a video component and there was no Facebook page. We started to add guests from the community, from the Chamber of Commerce, Town Council, County Board Members and others. We added Facebook Live and YouTube. The show began to catch on in the community and with only one weekly newspaper covering the news it gave residents another choice.

Today, we have over 3,000 followers on Facebook and it’s growing every day. Our Saturday shows are viewed anywhere between 1,000 and 3,000 times. We also offer the show as a podcast for anyone who prefers to listen and we can be heard on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio and other podcat platforms, in addition to our website www.beachtalkradio.com

As a compliment to Beach Talk Radio, and with the closing of the Island Sandpaper in July 2020, we decided to launch BeachTalkRadioNews.com, a news-focused website and e-mail newsletter to keep the community informed about all the news taking place on Fort Myers Beach.

Our news coverage includes all town government meetings, interviews with prominent members of the community, updates on major projects such as the Estero Boulevard road construction, Margaritaville, Bay Oaks, Bayside Park, Times Square, The Lovers Key expansion, and many others

We plan to highlight local beach businesses, interview amazing beach residents and bring to light the many characters that make Fort Myers Beach unique.

We will also have monthly columns from Fire Chief Matt Love, The Fairy Podmother Monica Lynn, Ranger Robert Howell and many others.

The e-mail newsletter will be delivered every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:00AM
