Town Hires New Harbormaster

Jacksonville, Florida native Curtis Ludwig has been hired as the new Harbormaster for Fort Myers Beach. He'll be paid a salary of $70,000, $2,500 to relocate, insurance and a retirement contribution. All in, salary and benefits, taxpayers will pay Ludwig $93,112.90 per year.

The Whale Groundbreaking Party Begins Friday

Mike and Dawn Miller will put shovels in the ground for the new Whale on Friday at 1PM. The Whale will be the first new restaurant/bar to be rebuilt after Hurricane Ian. The plan is to be open in the fall of 2025.

Beach Baptist to Vote on Land Sale

Members of Beach Baptist will be voting this Sunday to sell a piece of their property for $4 million to a developer. If the land is sold Beach Baptist would use the proceeds from the sale to build a new church.

5K Race Nets $6,500 For Woman’s Club

This past Saturday Beach Talk Radio's 2nd Annual Day Before Mother's Day 5K resulted in $6,500 being raised for the Fort Myers Beach Woman's Club. Due to a late flurry of registrations we were able to tack on another $1,500 after donating the original check of $5,000 immediately following the race.

Will A Bid Protest Delay The Renourishment Project?

The big beach renourishment project the town was hoping to begin next month could be delayed again. Callan Marine has filed a bid protest after the town awarded the project to Ahtna Marine. Town Manager Andy Hyatt says he now has to huddle with the Town Attorney to see if this might delay the project.

DEP Looking For Water Volunteers

Calling local community members with interest in water quality. Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve is looking for volunteers to sample water quality in Estero Bay monthly as part of a long-term citizen science program, the Charlotte Harbor Estuaries Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Network.

Town Hosting Hurricane Expo

With Hurricane season three weeks away the town of Fort Myers Beach wants residents to be ready. This Friday from 10AM to 2PM a Hurricane Expo will be held at the Mound House. Hurricane supplies will be available and local meteorologists will be in attendance.
