On Tuesday of this week Lee County Judge Margaret Steinbeck set a pre-trial conference date of September 20th for Adam Soules, the homeless man accused of killing Fort Myers Beach Librarian Leroy Hommerding back in 2019.
A trial has been delayed several times as the court and experts try to determine whether Soules is competent to stand trial. His defense attorneys have said they plan to pursue an insanity defense.
Soules is accused of killing the 69-year old Hommerding on January 20th shortly after 9AM as he opened the library. Soules is also accused of aggravated battery for attacking another homeless man with a knife 11 days before he allegedly killed Hommerding.
Unless there’s another delay, the hearing on September 20th will begin at 1:30PM.
