The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation is cracking down on unlicensed contractors. 25-year old Zackary Hartman is in the Lee County jail this morning, charged with impersonating a contractor during a state of emergency.

Hartman was working at 110 Bahia Via behind Charlie’s Boathouse on Fort Myers Beach when he was taken into custody by Lee County deputies.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation warned Hartman to stop working once. After that warning was ignored LCSO accompanied a state official Monday and he was arrested.

The department licenses and regulates professions doing business in Florida. Hartman is not licensed in Florida. He was doing work at the Bahia Via location without obtaining any permits from the town. The state regulates contractors to help prevent Florida residents from being scammed by unlicensed contractors and to ensure contractors follow Florida’s codes.

A contractor doing work in the state of Florida without a Florida license is committing a third degree felony according to the Florida statute.

Hartman is from Cedar Rapids, IA. No bond has been set yet for Hartman so he remains in custody at the Lee County jail. A court date of February 20th has been set for Hartman.
