Mike and Dawn Miller, owners of The Whale on Fort Myers Beach (pictured here with Katie Moses), donated a 2023 Kawasaki Mule UTV and a 2023 Polaris Ranger UTV (valued at $30,000) to Lovers Key State Park.

The park lost almost everything except the Welcome & Discovery Center. The building, recently constructed, was built to withstand major hurricanes. The other buildings, the beach, the bridges, the park equipment, and the flora were either destroyed or seriously damaged. On top of that, the park manager’s house was severely damaged along with other on-site residences.

Dawn Miller told Beach Talk Radio News, “Mike and I bought on the island in 2018. We knew immediately we found home. Our goal is to help bring back the community that we fell in love with, for me in the late 70’s and for Mike in the 90’s. We found out Lovers Key State Park needed ATV’s and knew we wanted to help. We didn’t realize we would find two. We are excited to see them reopen.”

As of today, the park still does not have electricity, beach re-nourishment is months away, clean-up and debris removal continue, and there is no timeframe for re-opening the park or for the ability for The Friends of Lovers Key to organize any events.

If you would like to help in the recovery of Lovers Key State Park, donations are greatly needed. Please visit their website to learn more: friendsofloverkey.org, or click HERE to make a donation. Every little bit helps.
