On Sunday, November 12th from 8AM to Noon we’re calling on the Yellow Army to volunteer to help the Estero Island Historic Society get back on its feet for a planned December 2nd Open House.

The historic cottages that are home to the Estero Island Historic Society were badly damaged by Hurricane Ian. So far the organization has spent $50,000 rehabbing the facilities. On, November 12th, we’ll need volunteers to help clean up around the outside of the buildings, including pulling weeds and planting native plants. We also need a pressure washer and we will seal the deck.

Tomorrow morning our 8AM walkaround will be at the Historic Society building. The buildings now have electric and air conditioning in the cottage on Saturday Ellie will give us an update on what they’ve accomplished over the past year.

This Sunday afternoon from 4PM to 6PM we’ll hold a Facebook fundraiser (with a max of $35.00 per person) to raise the money for the native plants and deck sealer.

If you would like to volunteer on November 12the from 8AM to Noon, please e-mail me at edryan@beachtalkradio.com or text me at 2392473833. We are limiting this beach cleanup event to 30 volunteers. There are 5 volunteer spots remaining. Bring rakes, shovels, gloves and be ready to get dirty.

The Estero Island Garden Club is helping us choose the native plants.

The Estero Island Historical Society is located behind the Beach School at 161 Bay Road.

The Estero Island Historic Society has a museum dedicated to the history of Fort Myers Beach. Although they lost quite a bit of their archives during Hurricane Ian, they plan to reopen with new exhibits that are designed to show how Fort Myers Beach evolved from a Calusa stronghold to a fishing village to a tourist destination.

The organization is also planning an “Open House” on December 2.
