Estero Island Historical Society President Ellie Bunting has written a new book called Lost Icons of Fort Myers Beach. The book takes readers back in time when Fort Myers Beach was a bustling community of people who made their living as business owners or fishermen.

Ellie’s book (the paperback version) is now in stock and can be ordered HERE.The hardback copies will be here in one week.

The proceeds from the $30 book will be used to help rebuild the Historical Society buildings at 161 Bay Road. You can also pick up a copy of the book at the Historical Society Open House on December 16th from 1PM to 3PM.

Learn the story behind the famous arches and the old swing bridge. Read about the transformation of Times Square from a business district to an entertainment district.
View photos and learn the history of the structures we have lost including the Gulf Shore Grill and the Cottage, Silver Sands Cottages, The Whale, Junkanoos, Red Coconut, the Outrigger, and more.

The book also discuss the churches that have been destroyed along with the original cottages that housed the library over the years and the Beach School, the Woman’s Club, and the Art Association.
