The Town of Fort Myers Beach and the United States Environmental Protection Agency are hosting 3 public events for the Coastal Florida Recovery and Resiliency Partnership Project.
R2P2 is an EPA Disaster Recovery program providing technical assistance to support long-term resiliency through public engagement, design concepts, and implementation strategies. The intended result is to improve the communities’ resilience to future flooding events, improve protection of natural resources, and increase long-term sustainability.
The first workshop, on Wednesday, June 12th from 6PM to 8PM will be focused on community input on design concepts for Newton Beach Park, Times Square, and improved connectivity throughout the island. That workshop will be held in the Town Hall trailers at Bay Oaks and Beach Talk Radio will carry that workshop live.
The June 12th workshop at the Town Council Chambers will be an opportunity to meet the R2P2 planning team and see initial design sketches for the focus areas.
On Thursday June 13th and Friday June 14th, also at Town Hall what’s being called an “Open Design Studio” will take place. According to EPA Disaster Mitigation and Recovery Coordinator Drew Parker the Open Design Studio is an extended community engagement meeting where citizens and stakeholders can come an engage with the planning team during a time that works best for their schedule. “This will be an opportunity to see initial design sketches for the focus areas and share feedback in real-time. The Open Design Studio is an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to drop-in and see the work underway, talk with the planning team, and share their ideas.”
