With the uncertainty of a possible hurricane heading our way this week, the town of Fort Myers Beach has issued a statement asking residents to be prepared. Town Hall has sand and bags available for residents, at 2731 Oak Street.
Those that live in the areas prone to flooding, please be aware that the Town’s stormwater system will not alleviate water breaching the seawalls from the back bay. Please be mindful that most of the Tier One project is still in progress, meaning drains may hold water for some time during significant rain events.
On Monday night at the request of Town Manager Andy Hyatt, the Fort Myers Beach Town Council approved a resolution declaring a state of emergency.

When Ian hit and Mayor Ray called for the mandatory evacuation the day before people were screeching why did he wait do long? Now we have heard nothing. Crickets….. After Helene, the only thing we have heard is to stay off Estero because of the sand. It is like a baja track out there from all the berms and renourishment, etc sand that is now all over the road. I have 2 feet of sand in my pool. Whose brilliant idea was it to keep putting millions of dollars of sand on the beach? During hurricane season? Why is town council silent????
So the sand bag deal..yes went to town hall 8:45 in morning Tuesday they gave me sand bags after I proved residency also gave re entry pass, ,they were very nice and helpful. Then I went to get sand.. and I didnt have shovel… of the 5 different men who were there with shovels (I was the only woman and most likely the oldest person) When I said “Oh I don’t have a shovel”… not a one ever offered to let me use their shovel when they were done. What’s wrong with those men? if it was me who had a shovel and someone else didn’t, I would have offered my shovel and to help.. really ?? Karma will get you guys!!
I saw Ed’s comment last night on the town hall live stream mention he was going to ask the mayor, after the meeting, what is going to happen with the trailers for the storm. I don’t know if he did ask him or not?
Is Town Council going to allow all the empty residential trailers to be allowed to be left on the island during this hurricane? Who will pay for the damage they do to people’s property as they are floating off their jacks and crash into cars, homes, fences??? Are they going to make the owners come with their trucks to remove them off the island? Anyone have info on the empty trailers that are parked on the island?
