According to the Lee County Elections office, just over 1,000 eligible voters on Fort Myers Beach have already voted. There are 3,351 registered voters on Fort Myers Beach.
There are 4 candidates running for 3 open seats on the Fort Myers Beach Town Council this year. Mayor Dan Allers, Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt, Councilman Scott Safford and Greg Scasny are on the ballot.
The Town Council election is non-partisan and the terms are for 4 years. Each council member can serve two consecutive terms before having to sit out one election. After that they could run again if they choose.Â
All council members are equal voting members. A Mayor is appointed by the full council every November and serves one year at a time. There is no rotation or limit to the amount of years a council member can be appointed Mayor.
The four candidates for Town Council were part of a Beach Talk Radio forum in September at Nervoud Nellie’s. You can watch that video HERE.
