That will be our topic for discussion Saturday morning at 11AM at Margaritaville when Lee County Mosquito Control District Executive Director David Hoel and Mosquito Control Board Commissioner David Farrar join the show.
State Representative Adam Botana is pushing a bill to merge the two districts with Lee County taking over all of the mosquito control responsibilities on Fort Myers Beach. The bill has been advanced to the state legislature by the local delegation and if it makes it through committees in the Florida House and Senate the bill will be placed on the ballot as a referendum in 2026.
If it makes it to a referendum, 50% of both Lee County voters and Fort Myers Beach voters would have to approve in order for the merger to take place.
On Saturday we will ask both Hoel and Farrar if Fort Myers Beach taxpayers will see their millage rate go up if the merger goes through and how it might impact service if approved.
