After over two years being closed the Fort Myers Beach Library will re-open on Sunday March 16th with a ribbon-cutting and a 4-hour event on the property from 10AM to 2PM. The first 300 people who register (below) will receive a free lunch and gelato.
Beach Talk Radio will broadcast live from the event from 10AM to 11AM (There will be no Mayor’s show at Wahoo Willie’s on 3/16).
Before the event begins Mom’s cinnamon rolls and Kenny’s protein balls will be offered on a first come first serve basis without registration.
At 10AM the event will begin with a few short comments before the doors officially open for the first time since Hurricane Ian. Entertainment will be provided by the Pearl Street Band. Chester the Artist will be drawing sketches of the children for free in the new children’s area on the first floor. Food trucks from Cubano’s, Detroit Dawgs, and Gelato-go Fort Myers will be at the event.
The Fort Myers Beach Fire District will have their truck on site for photo ops with any of the children or adults who would like their picture taken as long as the truck does not have an emergency to respond to.
At least 13 nonprofits will be set up on the 3rd floor giving out information about their groups. Monica Lynn who we call the dolphin whisper, will share here amazing pictures of dolphins that she has taken over the years. Former Library Director Dr. Leroy Hommerding was so impressed by Monica’s work that he inspired her to write a book incorporating her pictures. Her books will be available.
The library bookstore will also be open on the 3rd floor with some unique items to purchase in addition to used/almost new books.
There will be a station to renew library cards. If you don’t own property in the 33931 area, you can purchase a library card for $10 and it’s valid for 6 months.
There will be plenty of free parking on the Myerside lot as well as all Town parking spaces surrounding Town Hall and the Bay Oaks pool. All metered parking will be free behind the library and on the Town’s property until the event ends at 2:00 p.m.
To register for the free lunch, email friendsofthefmblibrary@gmail.com. Registration will be cut off at 300, so don’t delay. 160 tickets are already sold.

We need to get Ed to write the story of how Leroy raised the money and built the library so people will realize it is NOT a government building in any way. It’s a story that needs telling to inform the masses!
thx, Ed!
So very happy to learn that “our” wonderful FMB Library will finally be open again. Although I’ve been forced for medical reasons to move to NC, I will always have fond memories of the volunteer hours spent there and the privilege of working with Dr. Leroy Hommerding.
Oh, Pat, so great to hear from you. I’ve wondered if you were still in Bonita. Please take care, and I do remember all the wonderful things you did for the library. You even trained me!🥰 I wish you could attend.
I can hardly keep up with the reservations this morning and that’s wonderful! If you want to get the word out about something, just ask Ed to put it in his newsletter. We’re at 154 reservations. Register ASAP. Slots will fill up fast.
I can’t get the link to work.
Just send email to:
