On Thursday we spoke to Amber Dockery, a local pet lover who launched a cat rescue one year ago called Dockery’s Amazing Rescue. Her motto: Every Paw Matters. Lee County has over 250,000 stray and feral cats. Here’s how we can all do a small part to help.

Dockery’s Amazing Rescue is an official 501c3. We spoke to Amber after we posted the video of Angela Tardif who lost her three-year old Cat when he was eauthanized at the Lee County Department of Animal Services after only 2 hours. Angela will be on our show tomorrow.

We learned a lot about cats in Lee County over the last 3 days, including the number of stray and feral cats, and how many are just dumped at the county shelter or just left out in the elements to fend for themselves. It’s a tremendous problem.

Amber is trying to solve the problem with her 501c3 to take care of as many cats as she can. And, she’s already at capacity. She’s run out of kennel’s, she’s low on food and the vet bills are piling up for some of the sick cats.

Here’s how we can all help.

We’ve put together an Amazon WISH LIST HERE. If everyone reading this story can donate one item from that list this weekend we can make a difference. They are items that range from $7.00 to $34.00. If everyone orders one item, think about how HUGE that would be. Every item you order will be delivered to our house and we will truck everything to Amber on Friday, May 30th.

There are times where government cannot be expected to do everything, nor should it. This is one of those times we can all do a little that will turn out to be big.

  1. Do you know about the group of people on FMB to help out the feral cats here? They were doing it before Ian.
