Here’s Who Will Review The FMB Charter

Bryan Thomas, Ed Schoonover, Jim Dunlap, Henry Zuba and Bev Milligan have been appointed to review the Fort Myers Beach Charter. The town reviews the charter every ten years.

The goal of the commission will be to review the Fort Myers Beach charter, take input from the community and make recommendations to the Town Council. Recommended changes would need to be approved by the Town Council then placed on the next ballot (November 2026).

Examples of charter changes could be: making the Mayor an elected position rather than appointed by the council; changing the pay of elected officials; when the Town Council holds meetings; changing how ordinances are approved.

This has nothing to do with the Comprehensive Plan, The Land Development Code (those meetings are coming up too) or specific ordinances like the ebike sidewalk ordinance. It has to do with how the town government operates and functions.

Anita Cereceda was voted in as first alternative and Michele Churney was voted in as second alternative if for any reason any of the original 5 members leaves the commission

  1. I was under impression council members are paid and have all the benefits that town employees have… insurance etc…is there info on current benefits and stipends?

    • Look at the town budget.

Councilors are paid around $20k/yr (the mayor position is a smidge more than other councilors).

I know at least one year of his tenure, Councilor King donated his entire salary.

I don’t pay much attention to their salaries because the pay is tiny, especially considering the hours they put in.
