Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille recently celebrated National Yucatán Shrimp Day, serving 12,350 signature Yucatán menu items and bottles of sauce and hosting a 7K run on Sanibel.

The national day, started by Doc Ford’s in 2020, spanned several weeks at the restaurant’s on Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach and St. Petersburg.

“National Yucatán Shrimp Day is our biggest annual holiday and the response was amazing,” said Joe Harrity, a partner with HM Restaurant Group, which owns and operates Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille. “Customers were excited to participate in the prize drawing and the race.”

New this year to Sanibel’s festivities, a 7K race that drew over 350 runners. The 7K course was in honor of the seven ingredients in the restaurant’s proprietary Yucatán sauce. Awards were presented to the top finishers in each age group and overall winners. All participants were automatically entered in a drawing for a branded YETI cooler. The event raised $7,500 for the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s Sea School and its mission of protecting and caring for the region’s coastal ecosystems.
