In the recently approved $117.4 billion state of Florida budget, just over $1.2 million has been appropriated to Fort Myers Beach. Here’s what the funds will be used for.

$585,000 will be used for infrastructure improvements including repairs to town owned streets, curbs and sidewalks. The town must match 50% of the allocation from the state.

$350,000 will be allocated to complete repairs and improvements to the south end water tower. The repairs include repair and elevation of a backup generator, replacing valves and materials, building repairs and mitigation efforts to address the potential for future flooding. The town must match 50% of the allocation from the state.

$292,000 will be sent down from the state for downtown area storm water mitigation. The goal is to use the money to complete the construction of storm water management facilities in the downtown district of the town to alleviate storm water flooding. The town must match 50% of the allocation from the state.

Governor DeSantis signed the budget Monday after using the line-item veto for $567 million in funding requests.
