In honor of two milestones — the City of Sanibel’s and the Children’s Education Center of the Islands’ 50th anniversaries — a Sanibel treasure is making a flavorful return. The cookbook was originally printed in 1981.

The Sanibel-Captiva Cookbook was originally printed in 1981by Mariel Goss and Eugenia Loughney highlighting the rich culinary heritage of Sanibel and Captiva.

The Sanibel Recreation Center and CECI have joined forces to bring this collection back to the community. Proceeds will benefit both organizations — with the City’s share supporting the Youth Financial Assistance Program for children at the Recreation Center and CECI’s share supporting the beloved island preschool, ensuring that island families continue to benefit from this heartfelt community effort.

An original copy of the cookbook was included in the time capsule that was recently opened in November. This special edition celebrates decades of island community, connection, and cuisine. Packed with cherished recipes, stories, and island charm, the cookbook continues its legacy as a true taste of Sanibel’s past and present.

Cookbooks are now available for purchase at the Sanibel Recreation Center for $40. Call 239-472-0345 or visit 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road on Sanibel.
