The Local Planning Agency is making very important recommendations to the Fort Myers Beach Town Council regarding the rebuild of the island following Hurricane’s Ian and Milton. 3 seats on that committee are up for appointment at the end of September.
The terms of Chair Anita Cereceda, Vice Chair Jane Plummer, and Jim Boan expire this year.
Cereceda, Plummer and Boan are all planning to reapply for their seats.
Comittee members are appointed by the Town Council. Town Council members always appear to give more weight to potential members who attend the meeting in which the appointments are being made and hear them speak at public comment, especially new applicants. Cereceda, Plummber and Boan are well known to Town Council members and the community and have been serving on the LPA for many years.
There are 5 other town committees that have will seats up at the end of September: The Anchorage Advisory Committee (3 seats), The Audit Committee (3 seats), Bay Oaks (4 seats), MERTF (3 seats), and Public Safety (3 seats).
All seats committees are 2-year terms.

Residents that support Anita need to speak up! We all know some of the TC members will be looking to get her off the LPA even though she has been and continues to be a great leader and a voice of reason.
Yes, go Anita! Don’t let a couple TC members (we all know who one is!!) kick you out!! Anita is the one of the few who tries to protect resident’s rights, while making GOOD informed decisions on new developments. Agree with 2 out of the 3 being re-elected, but one doesn’t offer much in the way of good decision making. Approved a food truck park in a mostly residential neighborhood, citing I don’t like to cook!!
So glad all three are re-applying!!!!!!!!!!
