This installment of our ongoing service and education series is the second in a two-part series provided by your local Fire Marshal, Executive Assistant Fire Chief Ron Martin. Chief Martin concludes his little song titled “The Fire Marshal’s Twelve Days of Christmas”!

On the seventh day of Christmas, the Fire Marshal gave to me: Seven smoke alarms, six night lights for my older loved ones, five referrals to fire sprinkler contractors, four UL approved extension cords, three sets of pot holders, two tot finder stickers, and a watering canister for my live Christmas tree.

There is no question that similar to automatic fire sprinklers, properly installed and functioning smoke alarms save lives!

Any member of our community who may need a smoke alarm, batteries, or even assistance with installing a smoke alarm can contact the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department Life Safety Division and our crews would be happy to help make your home a safer one.

On the eighth day of Christmas, the Fire Marshal gave to me: Eight holiday shopping safety tips from our friends at Lee County Sheriff Office, seven smoke alarms, six night lights for my older loved ones, five referrals to fire sprinkler contractors, four UL approved extension cords, three sets of pot holders, two tot finder stickers, and a watering canister for my live Christmas tree.

While the holidays are a season of giving, family, and friends… for some it is seen as a season of opportunity.  Please visit and like the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page to get the latest information from our brothers and sisters in law enforcement on Holiday shopping safety tips.

On the ninth day of Christmas, the Fire Marshal gave to me: Nine coloring pencils to develop a home safety plan for my visiting loved ones, eight holiday shopping safety tips from our friends at Lee County Sheriff Office, seven smoke alarms, six night lights for my older loved ones, five referrals to fire sprinkler contractors, four UL approved extension cords, three sets of pot holders, two tot finder stickers, and a watering canister for my live Christmas tree.

Knowing two ways out of every room in the house is important for families to discuss, plan, and practice. Drawing a rough sketch of the home can help engage kids and parents in a discussion of what to do in case of fire, as everyone, despite age, should have a home safety plan in case of a fire.

On the tenth day of Christmas, the Fire Marshal gave to me: Ten USB flash drives to start preparing for 2021 Hurricane Season, nine coloring pencils to develop a home safety plan for my visiting loved ones, eight holiday shopping safety tips from our friends at Lee County Sheriff Office, seven smoke alarms, six night lights for my older loved ones, five referrals to fire sprinkler contractors, four UL approved extension cords, three sets of pot holders, two tot finder stickers, and a watering canister for my live Christmas tree.

With Santa almost here, it may seem odd to start thinking about the 2021 Hurricane Season, however, June 1st is not far away!

The loss of critical data such as birth certificates, identification, marriage licenses, auto registrations, and insurance policies can be devastating after a disaster and delay getting assistance. USB flash drives are an easy, cost-effective way to back-up personal data. In addition, flash drives provide a quick method to protect photographs, which can become a casualty in a rapid evacuation.

On the eleventh day of Christmas, the Fire Marshal gave to me: Eleven pill organizers for my visiting older loved ones, ten USB flash drives to start preparing for 2021 Hurricane Season, nine coloring pencils to develop a home safety plan for my visiting loved ones, eight holiday shopping safety tips from our friends at Lee County Sheriff Office, seven smoke alarms, six night lights for my older loved ones, five referrals to fire sprinkler contractors, four UL approved extension cords, three sets of pot holders, two tot finder stickers, and a watering canister for my live Christmas tree.

As we age, it is not unusual for us to take several medications a day, and it can become easy to forget a scheduled dose.  Pill organizers are a great way to keep you on track for your health and well-being.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, the Fire Marshal gave to me: Twelve individual packs of sunscreen, eleven pill organizers for my visiting older loved ones, ten USB flash drives to start preparing for 2021 Hurricane Season, nine coloring pencils to develop a home safety plan for my visiting loved ones, eight holiday shopping safety tips from our friends at Lee County Sheriff Office, seven smoke alarms, six night lights for my older loved ones, five referrals to fire sprinkler contractors, four UL approved extension cords, three sets of pot holders, two tot finder stickers, and a watering canister for my live Christmas tree.

As we enjoy holiday festivities and the wonderful Florida winter, it is easy to forget to protect the largest organ in the human body, our skin!  Please make sure to always where sunscreen when you are soaking up the Florida sun!
