When the COVID-19 vaccine was first rolled out the goal was to vaccinate as many elderly and vulnerable residents as possible. Now that Florida has vaccinated over 2 million individuals over the age of 65 Governor DeSantis is widening the net.
By Executive Order on Monday the Governor says if you fit into one of these 6 groups you can also apply for the vaccine:
– Long-term care facility residents and staff;
– Persons 65 years of age and older;
– Health care personnel with direct patient contact;
– K-12 school employees 50 years of age and older;
– Sworn law enforcement officers 50 years of age and older; and
– Firefighters 50 years of age and older.
Of course, applying for the vaccine and receiving it are two very different things. Every state in the country is dealing with a limited supply of the vaccine as the federal government works on pushing the supply out to the states as quickly as possible.
On Saturday, Johnson & Johnson received emergency approval to deilver its vaccine making it the third COVID-19 vaccine now available joining Moderna and Pfizer.
Johnson & Johnson expects to deliver 20 million doses of the single-dose vaccine by the end of March, and 100 million by the end of June.
