Many of Fort Myers Beach’s heavy hitters were in attendance at the opening of the new Welcome & Discovery Center inside Lovers Key State Park hosted by The Friends of Lovers Key.
The $100 per person fundraiser was called “A Night of Discovery.” The fancy Gala included live music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a chance to get a look at phase 1 exhibits.
The Welcome & Discovery Center has been worked on for nearly a decade and its the first project of its kind built in the Florida Park System in 20 years.
When complete the Discovery Center will in an Exhibition Hall with State-of-the-art interactive environmental exhibit designed by Split Rock Studios of Minnesota, a bookstore and a ranger station.
A 1500 square foot community room is also being built that will include space for classroom & meeting activities, lectures and community events, a kitchen for catering, mobile exhibit walls, the latest audio and video presentation technology and teleconferencing equipment.
