On July 15, 2020, 22-year old Johnny Jackson was killed on Fort Myers Beach. One year later, nobody has been charged with the murder.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of Jackson’s killer is now $33,000. Back in May Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers launched a campaign looking for information and offering a $3,000 reward. Since then additional donors have added to reward bringing it to $33,000. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department has not said anything about the investigation since the May Crime Stoppers press release was issued.

There are four billboards around Lee County with Jackson’s picture, asking for people to come forward with information about the incident.
Jackson was on the beach July 16, 2020, spending time with friends and family outside the Lani Kai. Later that night, an unknown assailant shot Jackson and quickly fled the scene. Last night friends and family gathered on Fort Myers Beach to remember Jackson.

Shortly after the murder, during a press conference on Estero Boulevard, Sheriff Carmine Marceno said, “This is an open, active homicide investigation. We’re working some real positive leads. At this time, we have every resource here to make sure we bring that killer to justice. We have multiple witnesses and we’re working multiple positive leads. All assets are on deck here and we want that killer behind bars.”

In August of 2020 the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said a person of interest in the case was in custody. It was believed that the person of interest may have been the killer, arrested on another charge. The person’s name was never revealed and no other information came out from LCSO regarding that report.

Anyone with information on the murder of Johnny Jackson is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
