The 6th annual Fort Myers Beach Christmas Bike Parade was a smashing success this past Saturday night as 85 bikes decorated for the holidays weaved up and down side streets with an assist from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.
The event, organized by Dan and Megan Allers, is intended to spread the Christmas spirit around the community as Megan led the parade in a golf cart playing Christmas music.
Dan Allers tells Beach Talk Radio News he looks forward to this event every year. “Part of the excitement is the unknown. You never know how many people will show up. With over 80 bikes this year it was the largest one so far. There is just nothing that can be said to describe the looks of joy and happiness on the faces of everyone we come in contact with. I would like to thank everyone that took the time to decorate their bikes and spread joy with us. A special thank you to the LCSO and Detective Adam Winton for his excellent work in making sure everyone stayed safe throughout the ride. I look forward to seeing all the old and new faces next year.”
The parade began at Junkanoo and wound through the Red Coconut RV Park and other side streets. Residents came out of the homes everywhere to take pictures and video and the words Merry Christmas could be heard coming from every direction.
The parade ended at Nervous Nellie’s where group photos were taken and customers posed for pictures with Santa Claus, who was also riding his bike in the parade. The group then walked their bikes through a very crowded Saturday night in Times Square.
