On Wednesday the Town of Fort Myers Beach sent out a press release reminding residents and business owners using trailers to live in, or to operate a business out of, they must be gone by September 23rd, 2025.
Town Manager Will McKannay said, “The Town is committed to working with residents to ensure a smooth and timely process as these permits come to an end.”
Allowing trailers was meant to help bridge the gap between losing everything in Hurricane Ian and rebuilding homes and business on the island– or selling the property. Previously business owners who were on the road to rebuilding (ie: paperwork in the town’s permit portal) they could remain in the trailers until they were close to opening. The Town Council wanted to encourage people to move along with rebuilding to start to get the island more functional. It’s unclear if that caveat still applies with this new deadline.
Mayor Dan Allers has repeatedly said on his Sunday show that this day would be coming. 3 years after Hurricane Ian was always the target to get the trailers off the island.
Failure to comply with the expiration deadline will result in code enforcement action, which may include but is not limited to a magistrate hearing and fines.
What about the food truck park trailers that was approved by Council?????
I hope with contractors on being able to leave materials stored on-site that they just jack up their prices and add more traffic
When did the town council decide this–was there a public meeting and vote taken by council members.
Says all trailers
Are the traillers at the beach bar and the Trailler park leaving as well?
