On Monday the Fort Myers Beach town council gave staff the approval to move forward and work with Florida Power & Light to install amber lights on Crescent street, first street, second street, third street and 5th street.
The lights will be amber lights approved by FPL which means there will be no cost to town taxpayers.
The lights are part of a tariff program at FPL, which means if a municipality chooses an approved FPL light they will also cover the cost to have the lights – and poles – installed.
About 15 new poles for the lights will need to be installed along with pull boxes.
The work is being done in conjunction with the downtown sidewalks project.
