The Lahaina Inn Resort on Estero Boulevard will not be rebuilding. The 3-decades old property, located on Estero Boulevard, with 37 timeshares, was wiped out by Hurricane Ian. The property is now for sale for $30 million.
Lahaina was an interval ownership resort offering rentals as well as sales. Units included a fully equipped kitchen, living room, dinette, bedroom, and outside porch/balcony. In addition to the timeshares, the property included 2 pools and a beach volleyball court.
The property for sale includes 2 parcels, 2.2 acres on the beach side and .4 acres on the other side of Estero Boulevard.
A listing by LSI Companies and RWB Real Estate states that the property potentially can be reconstructed with 26-37 timeshare units (as previously existed) or approximately 31 residential units beach side and additional units bay-side. Height limitations beach side are 35’ above base flood elevation and 30’ bay-side.
In my humble opinion, whatever the city approves for this property should be focused on lowering the Island density. Before hurricane Ian traffic on the Island was not tolerable. And the environment was stressed in regards to wildlife habitat. I encourage city planners to take this opportunity to benefit Fort Myers Beach residents and the Islands natural beauty.
If I were you I’d turn my property over to the town to make a park. That way you can set an example
These properties that are being sold should be rebuilt as they were if it was a bar restaurant or condo or hotel that’s what should go back on that property not all these large condos that are going to ruin our beach.
Tom do you drive the same type of vehicle your whole life?
Our lot is located directly north of the Lahaina bayside lot, or right next to it (5583 Estero Blvd). According to this diagram, it appears that “42 and 43” is actually our former home. Lahaina only had two units on their lot with the pool behind. We were not part of the Lahaina property, but rather were an individually owned structure with four weekly vacation rentals. Our lot is currently listed for sale with Alex King of Current Coastal Realty. Thanks for the article and information.
