The folks at the Restore Fort Myers Beach Arches group tells us that they are 38% of the way to the total they need to fund the approximate cost for construction. $15,000 is in the bank as of today.
The group says they need to sell about 1,179 more bricks to facilitate a maintenance trust for Lee County to fund future upkeep of the arches. 4X8 bricks are being sold for $100 and 8X8 bricks for $225.
If the funds are raised one of the remaining arches will be built in Bowditch Park
The group is holding a Walk The Arches Poker Walk in October which they are hoping will bring more attention to the cause.
We have funded what we think is 38% of the Arches construction (We won’t know for sure until someone bids on their construction). We have $15K banked right now. This month we have had a big drop in the number of donated bricks. We need to sell about 1179 more bricks to facilitate a maintenance trust for Lee County for future upkeep.
We hope that the Walk The Arches Poker Walk in October will bring more attention to the cause.
There are 17 stones from the original arches remaining, about 1/3 of the original structure. That amounts to 60,000 lbs of stone.
The arches welcomed residents and visitors to Fort Myers Beach, where the Matanzas Pass bridge now sits, from 1924-1979. When they were knocked down to construct the new bridge not all the pieces were saved. Those that were are now in storage.
