Should kids have to wear masks? The CDC reports that fewer children have been sick with COVID-19 when compared to adults. At Bay Oaks there is a very strict mask policy for kids. That’s about to be re-examined.

After a letter that was sent to the town council from a parent town manager Roger Hernstadt says parents will be asked whether they want the town’s strict mask policy to change. “We’re going to give them notice that town employees may not be vaccinated. We’re going to make them sign a waiver that it’s very possible that they and their children could theoretically catch COVID-19 being in a group setting in our summer recess program. And ask them if they want their children to wear masks. If the parents want the children to wear masks, we will require them. If the majority of parents don’t want masks, and are willing to accept the risk, then we won’t make masks required. We can’t have a scenario where one parent drive the conversation.”

The parents will also be asked if they would like the program to be expanded. There are currently 16 kids using the Bay Oaks after-school program The policy is that the kids must wear masks inside and outside. They must wear gloves and masks outside when playing tag. Parents are not allowed inside Bay Oaks to see their kids.
