The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will announce the Preferred Alternative for the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) during a meeting with the Project Delivery Team, stakeholders, and members of the public on Monday from 11A-1P
“The purpose of the engagement on August 9th is to provide the Preferred Alternative, set the goals for optimization in Iteration 3, and to explain the process for the optimization effort and development of Operational Guidance,” said LOSOM Project Manager Tim Gysan.
The Lee County Board of Commissioners is prepared to file a lawsuit against the Corps if Commissioners feel the plan chosen for the next decade does not address the needs of the west coast. County Board Chairman Kevin Ruane said. “The east coast cannot live in fairyland and not receive any releases.”
Ruane says the plan on the table now (CC) needs substantial changes not minor tweaks. Some believe this plan is worse for the west coast than the plan in place now which contributed to big problems back in 2018.
