As you may have heard on Beach Talk Radio this past Saturday, Paul Demello spoke about his foundation “Just Against Children Drowning.” JACD also stands for Joshua And Christian Demello, Paul’s twin sons who drowned in a swimming pool when they were 13 months old back in 2010.
Paul created this foundation to get the word out and make people aware of the importance of having a pool barrier as one of the layers of protection against such a tragedy. The organization installs pool safety barriers for free in homes of families who experience a water accident. They also help families involved with the Florida Department of Children and Families by providing pool fences at no cost. They also provide scholarships for swimming lessons.
The foundation raises money through the sale of Life Saver Pool Fences and events such as their 9th annual Bike Run on May 16th at Biker Life LLC in Port Charlotte. Kickstands go up at 11 AM. There will be a few stops along the route ending at Sharky’s in Venice. The cost is $15 per bike and an additional $5 for riders.
There is also a 5K walk and run slated for November. Please visit http://justagainstchildrendrowning.org/ to get further information about this amazing organization. You can also call Paul at (941) 626-7106 or jadcinc@gmail.com to register for the event.
