Mother Nature Was Not Nice to The Turtles
The 2024 sea turtle nesting was challenging thanks to a lot of weather events. Of the 109 nests on Fort Myers Beach this season, 28 hatched and 23 drowned. Yesterday was the official end to the 2024 turtle nesting season.
Seagate Final Vote Delayed Two Weeks
The final Town Council vote to redevelop the 10-acre Red Coconut property has been pushed back to November 18th. The second public hearing was originally scheduled for this Monday but had to be moved because it was not properly noticed.
The Estero Island Historical Society Needs Our Help

Stop Moving Sand Onto Estero Boulevard
Lee County is asking residents who live along Estero Boulevard to stop placing sand in the right of way while Lee County’s debris removal contractor shifts focus to residential debris cleanup today.
There’s A Lot Less Trash in The Water Today
Keep Lee County Beautiful recently hosted its annual Monofilament Madness marine cleanup. The event drew over 150 volunteers who removed 25,000 pounds of debris from the waterways, beaches, and mangroves of the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve.
Ellie’s Book is Flying Off The Shelf
The new shipment of Estero Island Historical Society President Ellie Bunting’s book called The Lost Icons of Fort Myers Beach is flying off the shelf again. The book highlights many of the landmarks on your favorite island, many of which are no longer around.
Seagate Receives First Approval From Town Council
Seagate’s Red Coconut redevelopment project received its first of two needed Town Council approvals Monday. A second public hearing will be held on November 4th. If the Council approves the plan after that public hearing the project can begin.

Beach Talk Radio will host one final candidate forum for the Fort Myers Beach Town Council race this Friday at 5:30PM at Fresh Catch restaurant behind Publix. There are 4 candidates running for 3 open seats on the Town Council.
Santini Will Have a Hardware Store
Gavin's Ace Hardware has signed a contract with the owners of Santini Plaza and will be moving into the previous Sun Hardware store location in the plaza. They should be open in early 2025.
LPA To Stay The Same
John McLean, Don Sudduth, Doug Eckmann and Jim Dunlap were all reappointed to the Local Planning Agency by the Town Council on Monday. All four had been on the committee before being reappointed. Two other residents applied but did not make the cut.
Big Fishing Tournament Registration Opens
The 21st Annual Calusa Blueway Kayak Fishing Tournament returns to Lee County on Saturday, Nov. 9, with proceeds benefiting the Candlelighters of Southwest Florida, a charity that supports children with cancer or blood disorders and their families.
Beach Hosting Open Water Swim
The Southern Cross Open Water Swim is back and will be held at Lynn Hall Park on Fort Myers Beach Saturday, December 7th. Hurricane Ian postponed the event for the last 2 years. The swims include a 5K, 1 mile, the Annual Buoy Ball, and Sunday’s Mimosa Mile.
