Over 2,000 residents in the RV and Mobile Home communities of Indian Creek and Siesta Bay are still not in their homes, 14 months after Hurricane Ian severely damaged both communities, which are located just off Fort Myers Beach near Wal-Mart. They are demanding answers.

Estero Island Historical Society President Ellie Bunting has written a new book called Lost Icons of Fort Myers Beach. The book takes readers back in time when Fort Myers Beach was a bustling community of people who made their living as business owners or fishermen.

This is one of the projects Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt has been working on and many of you ask about on a consistent basis. Last we were all told was that the government run facility was planning to open back up in September. Now, the opening date is unknown.

It's been more than 14 months since Hurricane Ian made landfall on Fort Myers Beach. As we get further and further away from September 28, 2022, we see more homes being repaired and rebuilt and pockets of green grass and new landscaping blanketing the island.

Former interim Fort Myers Beach Town Manager Keith Wilkins made a quick decision several months ago that so many of you are going to be extremely happy he made.

Funds are being raised at an event to support Fort Myers Beach teachers at the elementary school. Tickets are $30 per person and include one drink and appetizers. The money will be used to help teachers load up on supplies they need for the school year.

On Monday, the Fort Myers Beach Town Council approved three variances that will allow owners Mike and Dawn Miller to begin the rebuild of their restaurant. Last month the LPA also approved the variances.

The Beach Medical Center, run by Beth Ulman, and formerly located at 6051 Estero Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach, has a new temporary location in Bonita. They are now open and available to provide beach residents with health care.

Hundreds of residents from Indian Creek and Siesta Bay voiced their frustrations with the brass at Sun Communities Thursday morning wanting to know why they cannot get back into their homes.

It took 18 minutes for an army of yellow shirted volunteers to build the Fort Myers Beach Christmas Poinsettia tree in Times Square. The tree has been a landmark for beach selfies since 1996 and was a shining ray of hope when it was put up one year ago, shortly after Ian. Check out photos from the Thursday morning build HERE.
