On Tuesday, June 3rd at 1PM, an in-person Hurricane Preparedness Workshop is being hosted by the Lee County Visitors and Conventions Bureau featuring national and local emergency experts.

That's the hope as Salty Crab owner Greg Powers is set to bring his new building plans to the LPA Tuesday. If everything goes smoothly with approvals and permitting, Powers would like to break ground later this year and have the popular beach restaurant back open in the Fall of 2026.  

On Thursday the town of Fort Myers Beach announced it was moving to a new short-term rental software. The new software will help town staff monitor short-term rentals and identify renters not following the rules. 

On Tuesday The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation distributed $107,820 to 14 local 501c3 organizations, other local groups, and students who received scholarship money.

The town of Fort Myers Beach is soliciting feedback from residents regarding changes to their Comprehensive Plan. The meeting will be held at the Fort Myers Beach Library tomorrow from 10AM to 1PM.

HM Restaurant Group has promoted Chas Tatigian to culinary director. The newly created position is new to the company, which owns Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille, Dixie Fish Company and the recently purchased Bonita Fish Company.

On Sanibel: The Hurricane Diaries, a new documentary that captures the resilience of Sanibel Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, will premiere on Thursday, May 15th at 3PM at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center as part of the Fort Myers Film Festival.

A recall campaign is underway to oust Town Council members John King and Karen Woodson from the Fort Myers Beach Town Council. The recall committee has 29 days to collect 337 signatures of registered voters to keep the process alive.

Another major development project is on the verge of being approved. On Monday the Fort Myers Beach Town Council voted to move The Arches redevelopment project onto a second public hearing on June 2nd. If approved at that hearing, the project can proceed.
