The new community group focused on speeding up the rebuild of Fort Myers Beach got off to a booming start last week with over 120 people attending their first meeting. Now what?

Shortly after 6PM Thursday evening Fort Myers Beach Fire crews were dispatched to a gas leak in the area of Old San Carlos and Estero Boulevard. Here's what happened.

(By Kim Ryan) On Wednesday the Sanibel Captiva Chamber of Commerce held its monthly business lunch at the Marriott Sanibel Harbor Resort and Spa. The speakers were SCCF CEO James Evans, and Captains For Clean Water Executive Director Dan Andrews, who gave an update on water quality post Ian.

Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Scott Wirth said nobody was injured in the fire at 132 Andre Mar Drive early Wednesday morning.

The town of Fort Myers Beach sent out an official press release Wednesday evening that stated a Town Council meeting scheduled for 1PM that day was canceled due to "improper noticing."

It will be a phased opening according to TPI's Tom Torgerson. The main resort will open this November with the Beach Club (the pool area) opening in either December or January.

After releasing a proposed 13% ad valorem tax increase last Thursday, then meeting with several Town Council members over the weekend, Fort Myers Beach Finance Director Joe Onzick sharpened his pencil to find enough cuts to keep the millage rate from increasing.
