As if you needed any more proof that Fort Myers Beach was ground zero for Hurricane Ian. Lee County Tax Appraiser Matt Caldwell has released the estimated tax roll figures for 2023. Out of all Lee County municipalities, Fort Myers Beach will take the biggest hit.

Town Councilman Bill Veach would like to see a portion of the $1.1 Billion Lee County was granted from HUD to go toward workforce housing on Fort Myers Beach. And, he's come up with a unique idea to pitch to the county for those funds.

According to a letter the Lee County School Board sent to members of the Fort Myers Beach School ad-hoc committee, demolition on the Beach School should begin June 14th and the kids should be able to return to their school on Monday, November 13th.

Hurricane season started this week (June 1) and runs through November 30. Lee County is hosting a workshop to help you prepare. Speakers will share best practices, lessons learned and offer guidance on how to prepare for hurricane season.
