On June 16, 2020, SCCF staff affixed a satellite transmitter to a loggerhead sea turtle which had been nesting on Sanibel from 2018-2020. A month after she was tagged, the transmitter stopped sending signals. This month, the turtle SCCF named Junonia, phoned home…from Key West.

Over 1,200 volunteers at 43 sites in Lee County participated in the International Coastal Cleanup last weekend. Keep Lee County Beautiful is the local organizer for the event.

On October 6th at 12:00, the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce will host a virtual meeting with Lee County Director of Parks and Recreation Jesse Lavender. Three Oaks Middle School student Michael Cook was arrested after Lee County detectives verified an e-mail he sent stated he would bring a gun to school and harm other students.

The Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis has made a donation of World Atlases to the Beach Elementary School. The 20 atlases will be given to every 4th grade student at the school. Kiwanis Board Members Paula McCarthy and Jessica Hernstadt made the presentation to school principal Karen Manzi.

As of Monday morning there were 291 COVID-19 patients in Lee Health hospitals, 9 were children at Golisano Children’s Hospital. On September 13th there were 423 COVID cases and on September 7th there were 525 cases.
