While the steps to the fishing pier under the Matanzas Pass Bridge are already gone, there's still a chance the pier can be saved. The state was in the process of removing the fishing pier after the town decided it would not take over the maintenance of the pier. However, that may change.

300 People Help Clean The Beach
Keep Lee County Beautiful and the Tunaskin Beach Keepers Club held their 7th annual beach cleanup Sunday. Over 300 volunteers participated in the Fort Myers Beach event and picked up over 850 pounds of trash and debris.
Bridge Project Draws Big Crowd
The Florida Department of Transportation held an informational meeting for Fort Myers Beach residents Thursday night regarding the massive Matanzas Pass Bridge redesign project. 75 residents attended, about 15 spoke during public comment.

Town Making $420K in School Improvements
To make the new Bay Oaks redevelopment project work, the town of Fort Myers Beach needed some land. The Lee County School District had some land. A deal was made.

Bay Oaks Shovels in Ground May 15th
That's what town staff told the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus Advisory Committee earlier this week. The design is 90% complete and the Town Council will decide on whether to sign off on the project and proceed when it meets next week. Permitting would be the next step in the process.
