As part of its 40th anniversary celebration, the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge is rolling out its exclusive, limited-edition Wild Daze Ale on Dec. 4, with island events to follow throughout the month.

Recently retired City of Sanibel Town Manager Judy Zimomra was awarded the 2021 Junonia Award from the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau this week. The award recognizes those who positively impact Lee County’s tourism community in a big way.

The Wulfert Keys Trail off the Wildlife Drive at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge is closed until further notice for construction and bank stabilization. The reopening date is unknown at this time and will be announced later. 

Ajax construction has completed the new traffic light at the corners of Old San Carlos and Estero Boulevard near Times Square earlier than expected. The light will flash red until Wednesday to help alert drivers that the light is now working.

The Fort Myers Beach Fire Control and Rescue District is currently undergoing the development of a three to five year strategic planning process and they are asking for community input.

The Sanibel Vegetation Committee is offering guided native vegetation and landscaping tours of City Hall grounds, planted exclusively with native plants.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach will be getting a $1 million federal grant to help pay for the cost of the redevelopment of the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus. The grant is from the National Park Service - Land and Water Conservation Fund.  

Due to clocks rolling back this past weekend, the live bands that perform in Times Square on weekends will now begin at 5:30PM and end at 9:30PM. The entertainment is provided for free to the public by the downtown merchants association. Bands play every Friday and Saturday evening in the square.
