FWC to Host Florida State-Fish Art Contest
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, in partnership with Wildlife Forever, is eager to announce they will host the Florida State-Fish Art Contest. Students K-12 can compete in this free contest for a chance to win state and national honors and prizes.
$6,000 Raised During Fun Run
If not for COVID-19 last weekend would have been the 2nd annual Roar Offshore Boat Races on Fort Myers Beach. In its place race organizers held a Fun Run out of Cape Coral. 35 boats participated and $6,000 was raised for the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club.

Local Resident Wants To Restore Feeling of Safety
Suzi Bahan appeared on episode #134 of Beach Talk Radio Saturday, October 10. On October 5th she was voted in as a new member of the Public Safety Committee by the town council. After an unpleasant encounter with a homeless person, Bahan says her number one goal is to restore the overall feeling of safety on the beach.

Good News for the Great Blue Heron
The oil covered Heron who was rescued and treated at CROW last week was safely released from Bunche Beach on Oct. 10th. The bird's release drew a lot of attention from beach goers. The Heron needed a little encouragement to get out of the cage but then took off happy to return to the wild.
Popular Fishing Tournament Set For November
The Calusa Blueway Kayak Fishing Tournament returns to Matlacha Saturday, November 14 with proceeds benefiting the Candleighters of Southwest Florida, a charity that supports children with blood disorders and their families.

It was a packed house at Pete's Time Out this past Sunday as friends gathered to remember their friend Dave Collaton who passed away earlier this year from cancer at the age of 55.

During a routine colonoscopy this month Beach Buddy Tours Captain John Simoneau was diagnosed with colon cancer. With COVID-19 hammering the business hard this was terrible news to have to receive.
Artwork To Be Displayed At Shuckers
On October 19th the Fort Myers Beach Art Association and Gallery will partner with Shuckers to display and sell artwork in the Shuckers indoor dining area. The FMBAA artwork being featured will be from past presidents Lee Ackert, Michele Barron Buelow, and Gretchen Johnson.

Lake O Discharges Begin This Week
The Army Corp of Engineers announced the discharges will start Tuesday or Wednesday. Florida Commander Andrew Kelly announced Friday that the rate likely will be 1.16 billion gallons a day east to the St. Lucie River and 2.59 billion gallons a day west to the Caloosahatchee River.
