The game of chicken has started between the Town of Fort Myers Beach and FEMA. Despite a July letter that demanded the town make sure all trailers and containers are off the beach by November 18th, the town is now moving forward with its code violation process.

Last month, after the LPA approved EIBC’s new building proposal, the Town Council denied it. The reason, not enough public benefit to warrant a 10-story building. The denial was done with prejudice which means EIBC would have to sit out the process for a year.

At the Town Council meeting on Monday, Dan Allers was voted in as Mayor for another year by a vote of 5-0 by. Jim Atterholt was voted in as Vice Mayor also by a vote of 5-0. This will be the third consecutive year with Allers as Mayor and Atterholt as Vice Mayor. 

Tram Service Begins With Detours This Week

LeeTran will resume free tram service this Thursday on Fort Myers Beach but due to road construction and the Sand Sculpting event, the tram will have slightly detoured routes until Monday.

The 2nd reading for the Segate/Red Coconut proposal has been pulled from the Town Council’s Monday agenda. For the second time the town is rescheduling Segate’s public hearing. In fact, the town is now going to hold two more public hearings for the project.
