After a five-year hiatus, the American Sand Sculpting Championship is returning to Fort Myers Beach this November. DiamondHead Resort will host the 3-day event November 21st – 24th.

The Florida Right to Clean Water amendment was originally proposed for the 2024 ballot, but fell short of the 900,000 signatures necessary for review by the Florida Supreme Court. The initiative is back with revised language.

Bicycle safety has become a huge topic on Fort Myers Beach. So much so that the Town Council is opening up its bicycle ordinance to see if changes need to be made. For years the Council has discussed wanting to be a more bicycle friendly island but they've done nothing about it to make that happen.

For years, Fort Myers Beach Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt has been pushing town staff to get the operation of the mooring field to a break-even point. This week Finance Director Joe Onzick told the Anchorage Advisory Committee the town has been subsidizing the mooring field every year other than one.

When a business reopens on Fort Myers Beach it's hard to keep it a secret. The ground floor beach restaurant and bar Cabanas at DiamondHead Resort opened back up this week after sustaining severe damage from Hurricane Ian.

The application portal and submission of new applications for the LeeCares Hurricane Ian Housing Recovery Program ends May 15th. The County is processing over 1,300 applications requesting assistance for repairing, reconstructing, elevating or purchasing a home.

Our friend Ellie Bunting from the Estero Island Historical Society wants everyone to know that the Historic Society and the Ostego Bay Foundation are having an open house tomorrow from 10AM-1PM at 161 Bay Road. Ellie wants everyone to stop by to "see the progress we have made in our recovery efforts."

The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation's Viva Las Vegas Casino Night, sponsored by The King Foundation, raised over $14,000. The sold out event was held at DoamondHead Resort. The Community Foundation raises money to give it away and has handed out $180,000 to 30 organizations the last 10 years.

The Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club has enhanced its Pub  Passport Event with the announcement of a grand  prize giveaway. Each passport purchased will be entered into a drawing for a Margaritaville At Sea  Cruise for Two, on their Paradise Ship.

The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting another meet-and-greet Friday in Times Square and their guest will be Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Scott Wirth. Chief Wirth will take resident questions at the Chamber's volunteer Roxie mobile from 9AM to 10AM.
