Lee County reported that the preliminary resort tax collected for January was $5.17 million. That's a 21% increase over January 2023. We asked Lee County for the Fort Myers Beach contribution but were told the numbers are only broken out at the end of a fiscal year.

Diversified Yacht Services, located under the Matanzas Pass Bridge, has completed the reconstruction of its fuel dock which was destroyed by Hurricane Ian. Diversified will celebrate the reopening of the fuel dock today and the public is invited to attend.

By a vote of 7-0, the Fort Myers Beach Local Planning Agency approved a Special Exception for Rude Shrimp allowing "the consumption of alcohol at a restaurant with a bar visible from the exterior of the restaurant." It was an emotional discussion that had customers and neighbors taking sides.

On Wednesday the Coast Guard held a ribbon-cutting ceremony opening its new facility on Fort Myers Beach. The building was set to be completed one year ago, but was delayed due to hurricane damage. It includes berthing rooms, a galley, training rooms and a fitness room.
