On Tuesday Lee County Commissioner David Mulicka reported to the full Board of Commissioners that one year has been shaved off the time it will take to build the new Fort Myers Beach pier.

It’s been one of the most talked about issues on Fort Myers Beach. For years residents and visitors have wondered if lights would ever be installed on one of the most traveled roads in Southwest, Florida. 

The Fort Myers Beach and Iona McGregor Fire Control Districts are conducting a study to determine whether a merger of the two districts would be beneficial to taxpayers. A community forum is being held on the issue tonight at 5PM at Margaritaville. 

The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation's Fashion Show in Santini Plaza this past weekend raised over $12,000. The event was sold out. The money raised came from swag bag sales, raffle baskets, bar donations from Skyes Restaurant, 50/50 ticket sales and The King Foundation. 

They are two of the most popular states in terms of visitors to Fort Myers Beach. Parrot Key Carribean Grill is hosting 2 block party’s to celebrate the great states of Ohio and Wisconsin. Today is Ohio Day. Next Wednesday is Wisconsin Day. The celebrations run from 10AM to 4PM.

There are three seats on the Sanibel City Council up for election next month. Four candidates are running, including 3 incumbents. Sanibel City Council seats are for 4 years and the election is non-partisan. The 3 candidates who receive the most votes are elected.

Kava Culture on San Carlos Boulevard is hosting the next Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours tomorrow at 5:30. Complimentary appetizers and a cash bar will be part of the event which is free for Chamber members, $15 for non-members.

In a 4-3 vote, Jamie and Debbie Hotka and Dan Myers received approval for their proposed Food Truck Entertainment Venue on Estero Boulevard. The LPA meeting was long and included a lot of opposition from the nearby residential neighborhood.

The entire south end of Fort Myers Beach is waiting for more businesses in Santini Plaza to open, especially a restaurant that will keep them from driving to the north end or Bonita. The plaza suffered extensive damage in Hurricane Ian and has been creeping back to life.
