On Wednesday night this week new Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Ron Martin was officially sworn in. Fire District Board Chairman Larry Wood administrated the oath of office and Chief Martin’s wife Rose pinned on his new badge.

The event, held at the Fort Myers Beach Library, was attended by Chief martin’s family, Fort Myers Beach firefighters, officers and staff, several Lee County deputies, Mayor Ray Murphy, Councilman Dan Allers, Councilman Bill Veach, departing Fire Chief Matt Love and members of the community.

Fire District Board Member Board Member Jim Knickle said he was filled with mixed emotions having to say goodbye to Chief Love and also welcoming Chief Martin. “Chief Martin was an easy choice for Fire Chief  for me.  I think he has the experience,  credentials and vision to lead the Fort Myers Beach  Fire District  into the future.  It was wonderful to see the great turn out from our community  including Mayor Ray Murphy, Counselor Dan Allers from the Town and Captain Tim Laylor from LCSO who commands the  District that covers the Fort Myers Beach area. It was also great to see family, friends and many  members of the FMBFD that turned out to help us celebrate Chief Martin’ s promotion. I look forward to working with Chief Martin in the coming years and wish Chief Love good luck in his new position.”
