Tourists and visitors to Fort Myers Beach will be in for a little parking sticker shock in 2022. As part of the budget process Thursday night, the Fort Myers Beach Town Council raised town owned parking spaces to $5.00 per hour. The fee now is $3.00.
Councilman Bill Veach is hoping the town will be able to use some of the extra revenue, projected to be about $600,000, to pay for a new parking app.
The town owns parking spaces under the bridge and along Old San Carlos Boulevard, among other areas on the beach. Lee County owns Lynn Hall Park where the fee is $2.00 per hour.
The council also raised the application fee for vacation rentals from $50.00 to $300.00.
Both fee increases will go into effect on January 1, 2022.
