The lightning was non-stop across Southwest Florida on Saturday. An incident that took place on Sanibel is a stark reminder of how serious this weather event can be.
According to Town Manager Judy Zimomra, at approximately 4:52 P.M. a male and his wife were struck by lightning on Sanibel beach.
Officers arrived on scene where they found bystanders performing CPR on the male. Bystanders were also attending to the female who was conscious and breathing. Officers began CPR and deployed their AED and continued life saving measures until Sanibel Fire and EMS arrived on scene. Both victims were transported to a local trauma center for further treatment and evaluation.
