The Estero Island Historic Society is preparing a special March program spotlighting the history of island churches and the vital role faith communities have played on Estero Island. Volunteers are needed…
According to EIHC President Ellie Bunting they have volunteers from the Catholic Church and the Episcopal Church, however, to help make this presentation more inclusive, EIHS is seeking volunteers from the Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, and Lutheran churches who can contribute photographs, artifacts, documents, and / or personal recollections.
Bunting said, “Island churches have long been gathering places, relief hubs after storms, and anchors of community life. We’re inviting congregants and friends from the all island churches to help us tell this story—on the record and for future generations.”
They plan to present this information at a public meeting on March 9. If they can get volunteers from each of the island churches, they will set up a panel discussion and will help speakers with any audio-visual needs they may need. This can be as formal as a Power Point or as informal as a short personal reflection. They have the history of all the churches and will share it with the speakers so you won’t need to do any research.
If you are a present or former member of Chapel by the Sea, Beach Baptist, Beach Methodist, or St Peter’s Lutheran Church, please contact Ellie at profbunting@gmail.com.
This March presentation is part of EIHS’s ongoing public history offerings, which share the stories of the people and places that shaped Estero Island. The program will feature a curated selection of images and artifacts, short talks, and audience Q&A. Contributors will be acknowledged during the event.
The presentation about faith communities and churches on FMB will be a public meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026, starting at 1 p.m., in the Community Room (3rd floor) of the FMB Public Library, with access to a microphone, computer and screen to project any images or presentations. Please join us!
