According to the Lee County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller’s office, Fort Myers Beach contributed $6.6 million of the total $53.3 million in bed tax money collected in Lee County over the last year. March 2020 was the top month for Fort Myers Beach.
Sanibel’s total for fiscal year 2021 was $6,071,323.36.
The Lee County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller’s office collects the money and announced the total collected for the year this week.
The fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th.
A portion of the bed tax goes toward renourishment of all Lee County Beaches. The 5% tourist tax is applied to all hotel stays and rentals of six months or less.
