Last week President Joe Biden signed a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, which will not only include money being sent directly to individuals, it will also send money to local governments.
Fort Myers Beach Town Manager Roger Hernstadt told the council on Monday that Fort Myers Beach is on schedule to receive $3 million from the relief package.
The legislation provides $350 billion to states, local governments, territories and tribes and from that $350 billion, unless something changes, Fort Myers beach will get $3 million. Sanibel is set to receive $3.1 million. Fort Myers is slated for $16 million. The City of Jacksonville will receive the most in the state of Florida at $163.8 million.
It’s unclear as of yet how that money can be spent when it does arrive.
